Yesterday, I was getting ready for Chris and I's last date before "The Year Apart" commenced, and was quite excited. It was a beautiful day out, I had a new sundress to wear, and I actually was running on time (I know, right? - it was a good day!). I was just spritzing on some perfume in my room and putting on some jewelry when I felt a sharp pain in my toe. I glanced down at my floor (which was a little messy from when I was trying to find a particular shirt the day before), and noted that I had stepped on one of my favorite necklaces. Luckily, the necklace was still intact, and I proceeded to hurry up and get my things together. But with the next step I took, and even sharper pain, I knew it was not the necklace I had stepped on it. I arched my foot up, and what do I spy? Oh, just one of my earring and its' stud lodged completely in my toe with blood now gushing (uh, literally) from it. Of course.
I ripped the earring out- luckily it came out mostly clean- and ran to the bathroom, leaving a trail of blood on the carpet. I ran into the bathroom and watched as the blood quickly covered the floor before I finally had enough sense to stuff my foot in the bathtub. It took me close to 20 minutes to stop the bleeding, before I was finally able to douse my toe with alcohol. It then took me another 30 minutes to clean up all the blood (oh so lovely), because, gosh dangit- I want that security deposit back!
It turned out to not being a huge deal- my toe is pretty bruised, a little swollen- but no infection so far (knock on wood); and most importantly, Chris and I had a nice date (minus the little kid who threw a crayon at us during our dinner... parents, control your children!). However, this incident caused me to reflect on another similar experience I had a few days before high school graduation, when I stepped on a nail that went through my shoe and foot and I could barely walk during "Pomp and Circumstance". I truly do believe that I have the worst luck imaginable. Really.
