I was nineteen years old and determined to become a dental hygienist. However, chemistry had other plans for me and after two unsuccessful attempts I "read the writing on the wall" and realized that science and Lindsay LeVeque do not mix. Then I switched to Elementary Education spring of my Freshman year and loved the program ever since.
However, over the last year- I've experienced many doubts and after wrestling with various issues finally recognized that I don't really want to be a teacher anymore. I've grown up a lot over the last couple years, and I'm really not that same person anymore. I still hold a vested interest in Education and all related issues, but at this point in time in my life I realize that I need to be truly honest with myself. I think I might "like" teaching, but I can realistically see myself being burned out in the next couple years. I haven't written off teaching completely, but I need to take care of myself for while. Perhaps, in five years, I'll get my masters and proceed to teach- but at this point in time, I really need to do something else. Therefore, I'm switching my major to Communications. Yes, I know that it is my Senior year and this is not only unorthodox, but also completely not Lindsay-ish either. After calculating credits and required classes to take within the major, I will be done with the major at the end of Summer. This is actually sooner than if I had stuck with Education as I was slated to student teach Fall 2008.
I haven't quite decided what I'm going to do with the comm major yet... I'm thinking corporate event planning, but at this point I'm very open. It's nervewracking to make such a change, but at the same time I feel such a peace and relief about my decision- so I know my choice is justified. I guess, in the end, you really have to do what's best for yourself because only you know what exactly that is.
Switching the major did not come without complications, however, as I made this decision after most classes had already filled up (I had originally registered for all EDUC classes for Spring Quarter). There was only one single combination of classes that I could take that would allow me to be done at the end of summer- due to classes that weren't offerred during the summer and time conflicts between the sections. As it was, one professor refused to let me into his class (why 31 people vs. 30 people in a lecture class was so horrible and not feasible is beyond me), but I worked my magic with the Dean of the Communications Dept. and he is waiving that class for me and allowing me to take a different class in exchange for it. So far so good- and I'm scheduled to be done at the end of Summer! Whoo Hoo!
I will most certainly keep everyone posted on how everything pans out- but in the mean time, wish me luck!

Two things:
1. Ahem, event planning. I see a partnership here.
2. Must admit, I am a tad surprised Chris is going for this position after your, um, experience, but I think he would do just as well as you did (especially despite your challenges!) Love you!! -Jessica
